​The White Lake Chamber Music Festival will celebrate a 10-year anniversary, showcasing exceptional talent and great music in the White Lake area from August 2– 11! For ten years, Festival organizers have consistently created excellent programming, hosted exceptional talent and world-class artists, and presented inspiring classical music performances. A musical experience mostly found only in metropolitan cities is now an annual opportunity for White Lake area residents and visitors.
 
From August 2 - 11, local, national, and international performers will come together to bring big-city experiences to the White Lake area, making the fine arts more accessible in this community. Over twenty varied events and performances in just ten days will be presented.
 
Mark your calendars for the annual “Friends of the Festival” Home Concert on Lake Michigan. This June 21 concert will feature Detroit Symphony flutist Jeffery Zook and Oakland University faculty guitarist, Brett Hoag, to bring you an evening of duos from Guliani to Piazolla. Their eclectic programming and dynamic performances have delighted and entertained audiences throughout the Midwest. Great food, great music, and great friends can be expected! Tickets go on sale April 1.

The White Lake Chamber Music Festival Announces a Stunning 10-year Anniversary Season!

From August 2 to 11, this year’s White Lake Chamber Music Festival will present exceptional performances and events held throughout the White Lake area of Montague and Whitehall. The Chicago based, world-renowned Avalon String Quartet returns to the White Lake area for the 10th annual White Lake Chamber Music Festival. This quartet, described as “…deeply musical and sheerly gorgeous”, is the cornerstone of the Festival, presenting 3 concerts, a children’s concert, open rehearsals, and community outreach. Having established itself as one of the country’s leading chamber music ensembles, The Avalon String Quartet continues astonishing audiences across the nation with their performances.
 
Local, national, and international performers will come together in the White Lake area during this 10-day festival. Virtuoso violinist James Buswell will be joined by touring and recording artist,cellist Carol Ou and New England Conservatory pianist Andrew Goodridge. They will perform a trio concert featuring Beethoven’s “Ghost” Piano Trio and Brahms’s Piano Trio in B major, Op.8.
 
The Festival will open with a spectacular brass concert featuring the Gaudete Brass Quintet. Special presentations will be made by local officials in honor of the 10th anniversary.
 
Hear the Detroit Symphony Trio as they explore repertoire from classical to modern on Monday, August 5. Flutist Jeffery Zook, violinist, Sheryl Hwangbo and cellist David Ledoux debut at the White Lake Chamber Music festival performing music by Devienne, Piazolla, Edgar Girtan and others.
 
Youth programming will be expanded this year to include more events:
• The popular educational concert at the White Lake Community Library featuring members of the Avalon String  
   Quartet
• An opportunity for young musicians to perform
• A children’s concert at the Montague Public Library featuring educator and cellist Erin Wang
• A performance by the top three winners of the Young Artists College Solo Competition, giving the community a  
   glimpse into Michigan’s top talent from the state’s universities and colleges.
 
A 10th anniversary highly anticipated pre-celebration, "Sunset Serenade" concert, will be held on Friday, June 21, at the beautiful home of Harold and Barbara Wheaton. Catering will be done by Sheila Fretty and will include wine, hors d`oeuvres, and desserts. Detroit Symphony flutist Jeff Zook and Oakland University guitarist Bret Hoag will perform.
 
A brilliant piano recital on August 6 features Andrea Swan, Chicago’s own well-known chamber musician, collaborative pianist, orchestral keyboard player, soloist and teacher. She will perform works of Bach, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Franz, and Chopin.
 
The Festival Chamber Orchestra has become one of the festival’s audience favorites. On Friday, August 9 Baroque composers will be showcased in this program at the Montague United Methodist Church at 7:30 p.m.
 
Salon Concerts are among the many highlights of the week. Talented musicians will be featured daily at 4:30 p.m. at the Book Nook and Java Shop. Guest artists include William Watson, tenor and Tracy Watson, soprano (Sat.); Cello duo - Michael Carrera and Pablo Mahave-Veglia (Mon.); 4 Hand Piano - Bryan Uecker and Steve Thielman plus flutist Don Bailey(Tues.); Solo Competition winners (Wed.); Vireo Trio - violinist Michelle Valllier, cellist Erin Wang, and pianist Bryan Uecker (Thur.); Classical Guitar Duo - Brian Morris and  Jonathon Marshall (Fri.); and the John VarineauWoodwind Ensemble (Sat.).
 
The Festival is truly a unique, collaborative, community event. In only 10 years, nearly 200 concerts, in addition to recitals, master classes, youth concerts, the Young Artist Solo Competition, and open rehearsals have been held. The White Lake area is increasingly becoming known for presenting the best in classical music. Audiences continue to grow and come from greater distances, making the Festival and our area a vacation destination.
